The Prescription: Fiscal Policy for Today’s Economy with Alpa Shah

This week’s guest: IMF economist Alpa Shah discussing digital taxes

The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center (TPC) is holding a series of online conversations on tax and fiscal policy in today’s economy. The discussions take place every other Thursday afternoon and feature varying perspectives on the historic economic challenges facing the United States and the world and the best ways to address them.

This week’s guest is Alpa Shah, an economist with the International Monetary Fund and co-author of a recent paper on digital taxes. She’ll discuss efforts by many countries and states to implement such levies, their pros and cons, and how these taxes might be affected by ongoing negotiations over a new international tax regime.
