The Prescription: Fiscal Policy for the COVID-19 Economy with Fred T. Goldberg

This week’s guest: Former IRS Commissioner Fred T. Goldberg

The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center (TPC) is holding a series of online conversations on policy responses to the COVID-19 economy. The discussions take place every other Thursday afternoon and feature varying perspectives on the historic economic challenges faced by the United States and the world and the best ways to address them.

This week’s guest is Fred T. Goldberg. He was commissioner of the IRS from 1989 to 1992 and served as assistant secretary for tax policy at the Treasury in 1992. Before becoming commissioner, he was IRS chief counsel. Currently, he is of counsel at the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates. He’ll be discussing the challenges the IRS faces as well as President Biden’s recent enforcement initiatives.
