Thursday, October 29, 2009 Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the top Republican on the budget panel and a senior member on the Ways & Means Committee, is the author of “A Roadmap for America’s Future” (H.R. 6110), a plan linking tax reform with health and retirement policy, fiscal responsibility, and economic competitiveness. Ryan would give taxpayers the option of paying under the existing system or through a vastly simplified tax code that would eliminate nearly all preferences. Join Paul Ryan at TPC’s next Tax Reform 2.0 forum. Rep. Ryan will discuss his reform roadmap and take questions from the audience. Ryan is the author of "A Roadmap for America’s Future," legislation he introduced in May 2008. The proposed legislation presents a plan to bring government spending under control over the next 75 years. The plan’s objectives include insuring universal access to health insurance; strengthening Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security; removing the debt burden from future generations; and promoting sustainable economic growth and job creation in America. Ryan's roadmap would change both the individual and corporate tax systems. Individual income taxpayers would have a choice between paying their taxes under existing law or through a highly simplified code with two rates and virtually no special tax deductions, credits, or exclusions. The corporate income tax would be replaced with a business consumption tax. Experts from the Tax Policy Center will be available to speak with audience members and media after the event. |
